5-6 Month Routine

I’ve been a little behind in posting my routines, mostly because I went through a period around 5 months when I started hating having a schedule. Izzy really started fighting her naps around that time, and it made everything ten million times harder. That said, ever since we started sleep training (more on that to come), things have gotten a lot better. As I type this, she’s nearly 7 months, and we’ve recently started working on dropping her 3rd nap, so I’ll be posting another schedule in the near future.

But, I digress.

Here’s a rough overview of what 5-6 months looked like in our household.

Wake & eat: 6:00 a.m.

Breakfast (solids): 7:00 a.m.*

Nap #1: 8:00 a.m. — 9:00 a.m.

Eat: 10:00 a.m.

Nap #2: 11:30 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.

Eat: 1:00 p.m.

Lunch (solids): 2:00 p.m.*

Nap #3: 3:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.

Eat: 4:00 p.m.

Start bedtime routine: 6:15 p.m.

Bedtime: 7:00 p.m.

*We started her on fruits & veggies solids at 6 months. Prior to that, she had been having rice cereal or oatmeal twice a day.

Of course, on a lot of days, she wouldn’t nap that full hour, and it took forever to get her down on other days (sometimes both frustrations occurred at once). I’ve gotten to the point where instead of trying to force a schedule, I’ve been trying to let them occur naturally, while paying attention to the patterns that emerge. Given that babies aren’t robots, that seems to be the best answer, tbh.
